aflo

A connected health experience for people living with Asthma and COPD

aflo is a game-changing connected health experience for individuals with Asthma and COPD. This project allowed me to play a key role in the powerful synergy of Design Thinking and co-design principles, to  craft a user-centred solution for the challenges faced by respiratory patients.

As a UX Designer, my role involved distilling our understanding into a clear problem statement. We honed in on the critical issue of inhaler misuse and its associated health risks, aligning our focus for the project.

Defining the Focus

Ideating with Empathy

We embraced co-design principles during the ideation phase, fostering collaboration with key stakeholders including patients and healthcare professionals. This collaborative approach was pivotal in generating innovative ideas that not only addressed inhaler misuse but also integrated air quality and viral data for a holistic health picture.

Designing the Experience

The core of my role was translating these ideas into a tangible user experience. We developed a number of user journeys with clinician input and tested them with consultants, nurses and pharmacists. We used insights from these sessions to update personas and iterate on user journeys.

Aflo was created, a user-friendly app that would gently guide users through proper inhalation techniques while delivering actionable insights into their health.

Usability testing was a vital part of our process. I worked hand-in-hand with users, including expert patients, carers, clinicians, and individuals with Asthma and COPD, to refine Aflo iteratively. Their invaluable feedback shaped our design.

Iterative Improvement

From Concept to Reality

In collaboration with the development team, I ensured that Aflo's design seamlessly transitioned into the final product. My role was to maintain a consistent and delightful user experience. This translated to regular sessions with the development team to ensure our designs were translated as intended into the final experience.
